Rudd's Pub Weekend Report

by Michele

We met at the Ampol service station at 9.30am for a 10am start. Various cars needed fuel, while so did some of their occupants. To make the drive out a little bit more interesting, I set a few observation run questions. Not an easy thing to do when you haven't actually driven over the route! But I did have maps and tourist booklets, and Campbell put his 2c (or should that be 5c these days?) worth in, too. Of course, later on, the critics are all out with their pitch forks - maybe one of them will set an observation run next time??

We needed a stop at Laidley to put in that winning Lotto entry. Everyone seemed to enjoy the leg-stretching. Next we proceeded to the Lions park for a morning tea break. It was very windy - the lake had waves! Everyone wanted that corner in the shelter-shed out of the wind. Eventually we ended up at Clifton, found our accommodation for the night, then headed out in search of a meal. That afternoon, we took the tourist route around the area, fininshing back in Nobby.

Ken's huge steakWe met again at 6pm for a wonderful Dad & Dave reading from Frank Mullis (a 1960s radio performer) a lovely gentleman. Dinner was something else! Ken had a steak that just would not fit on the plate, while the pavlova was 15cm high! No wonder the rural areas are going broke! We all enjoyed our meals thoroughly.
Saturday night was some members partaking of alcholic beverages (some of which they later regretted!), while playing pool and the jukebox until all hours!

Sunday morning, and we all eventually met at the museum. A very interesting collection of memorabilia - well worth the hour or so visit. Lunch for some of us was in Toowoomba while others headed home to more pressing activities.
All in all, an enjoyable weekend.
