My
motoring tip for the month is on parking. Remember that handbrakes
can fail and gearboxes drop out of gear (or Park), so when leaving your
car, not only leave it with it both in gear (Park) and with the handbrake
properly applied, but also with the front wheels nosed into the kerb. Then,
should the unthinkable happen and it should be moved forward, or backward,
it can only go off the road and out of harm's way. If parking on
a sloping driveway, I suggest turning the front wheels so that the car
would roll the shortest distance before coming to rest.
More than one Honda that I know of has been "kissed" by an unmanned car
coming down a driveway and across a street to engage in physical contact.
