The National Meet 1999.
Results and Report.

by Campbell Sharp

As a member of several National Meet organising committees and an attendee at nearly all National Meetings since 1981 I have noticed a few things and have decided that there are ways to save everyone a lot of time and trouble. There are always some consistencies and usually some random problems. As some people have confided to me at various points they have enjoyed most National Meets except for .........

As these "except fors" are usually totally unexpected and unpredictable the only way to avoid these disappointing aspects is to remove the need the need for travelling to a venue for a National Meeting. Now you may ask "How can you have a National Meet without going somewhere?" Simple. Since the inception of the National Meets we've been able to identify that there are certain people who will always compete in certain ways and classes, aiming for specific placings. We have a good idea about who performs well in the sprints, which motorkhana tests trip people and how some teams will work in the observation/navigation run.

From this we can extrapolate a certain number of placings in some classes. Now if we check each clubs newsletters we will have an idea about recent motorkhana standards from the relevant club members. Observation runs and the occasional sprint also turn up in each clubs events.

We can access a computer program for the predicted performance around various Australian race tracks. Bring these things together and we will soon be able to publish everyone's Lakeside times.

So as soon as we get the entry forms for 1999 out and you've completed and returned them, with the appropriate entry fee, we will be able to compile your placings. In all events.

All the usual activities for a National Meet will be held, via the internet, with all participants staying at their normal internet home site. All events will occur and be published via the internet at the advertised time of the event. Thanks to an unpredictability factor in all of the programs we will have the requisite number of missed gear changes and spins etcetera in the sprint, W.D.s and penalty flags in the motorkhana and lost questions, bad turns and State biased questions in the observation/navigation run.

All results will be subject to protest. All protests must be lodged 24 hours prior to the running of the event (based on the premise that many competitors will have attempted to run the same programs as us, and in an attempt to improve their chances will have decided to change to a class where they stand a better chance.), accompanied by the appropriate fee. The fee will be calculated by multiplying the points that they think that they'll earn from our placement by the number of points that they think that they should receive by the number of competitors from their respective state.

Any protest upheld will disqualify both parties to the protest from the next National Meeting.

Similar predictions will be made about the social activities. If you particularly want something to happen please send us your wish list, with appropriate names, and again our randomising algorithm will be brought into play.

As you can see, you are all having a good time and generally performing well. One of the important things immediately visible is just how much cheaper the event will be. There will be no need to actually have to pay Lakeside with the money from Honda Australia, nor chase up marshals and scrutineers, or pay CAMS for those pesky little permits. Just thought that I'd clear those things up so that we can all get back to more important things.
