1.
SUSPENSION
The cars are over ten years old now, and most will probably have stuffed struts and sagged springs. It's hard to tell on a car that's driven regularly as the deterioration is gradual and therefore very difficult to notice.
My
rear suspension started to sag a lot when loaded up, and the front wasn't
taking pot holes and bumps very well. The ride quality was getting worse
and the overall handling was not up to scratch.
Heavy duty Bilstein gas struts have been used on the front along with uprated springs. Adjustable spring bases have been fitted to allow fine tuning of the ride height.
Adjustable Koni struts have been used in the rear along with uprated springs, and new bump stops.
2.
BRAKES
& ROTORS
I have found the standard rotors to be very soft. They wear unevenly and develop a severe wobble when braking. Mine have been machined twice, but have reached their minimum thickness.
I have now fitted a Honda rotor that has a bigger diameter and is thicker. The larger diameter should substantially improve braking due to the increased moment. The extra thickness should improve heat dissipation and prevent warping.
The standard calipers will not fit on the new bigger rotors. I have used much larger calipers from another Honda. These are enormous. The piston is bigger than the standard one, and the pads are very much bigger.
3. OTHER WORK
Some of the work planned for the car includes :
A. Engine rebuild
B. Replace all suspension bushes with polyurethane ones
C. Fit a variable boost controller
D. Exterior paint tidy-up & rear bumper replacement
E. Refit "WRX" type front bumper & lights
